  • Confidence among landlords remains at a record high, with research from Paragon Mortgages finding that 33% expect the value of their portfolios to increase in 2014 while over a fifth plan to buy more over the next few months. This is endorsed by a survey from LSL Property Services, which revealed that 58% of landlords predict tenant demand will grow in the next 12 months and nearly a fifth expect to expand their portfolios in 2014.
  • The Mortgage Market Review (MMR) will come into force in April 2014. At present it will only relate to regulated mortgage applications, but is likely to result in more stringent lending criteria with rigorous scrutiny of interest only applications, and stress tests for future interest rates hikes.
  • According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), UK house prices will see an increase of 8% in the next year while the cost of renting a home should rise by a further 2%.
